Being a dad

It's been a while since I've blogged, and I've come to find that what they say is true.  Everything changes once a baby comes.  I can't believe how much has changed.  Before I thought I was selfish and didn't know how to handle a baby, but somehow it just happens.

Hazel has really been changing a lot lately.  The newest thing is cooing.  At about month 2 she would make these random noises, but starting yesterday she just started to blab away.  She gets especially noisy when she's about to cry.  Just a bunch of hmms, whaaass, and eeeiou.  What a precious gift :)

The Faces of Brian Williams

I often ask my wife the question that Brian Williams asked America last night on NBC Nighty News.  Do I have a double-chin?

B.Y.O.B.

So for Thanksgiving this year we are doing something I've never done before.  Some people got together and thought of an idea that is unique and fun.  B.Y.O.B. or Bring Your Own Bird.  Because of the new tandoor, I thought that we might try our hands at some Tandoori Chicken.

So I got a whole chicken.  It was seasoned with the best Indian spices.  Next I went to the sabzi wala (vegetable seller) and bought some veggies to "tandoor".

Would you believe that to cook all that took only 25 minutes.  That's 25 minutes of cooking time + 45 to get the tandoor hot enough + 10 for preparation.  So really a total of 1 hour 20 minutes, but it was worth it.

We through in some bake potatoes for good measure and good eating and had a feast!

Dad, you taught me well.  Doesn't this entice you to come back to visit??

To Tandoor or not to Tandoor

The Indian grill is known as a tandoor.  It's a clay oven that you use to make chicken tikka, paneer tikka, tandoori chicken, and the list keeps on going.  Well, since I'm a Texan it's in my blood to grill, and for over two years I hadn't had a chance...until about 1 hour ago.

Yesterday, I went and bought a tandoor for $7.  Then I went around the corner and bought firewood and charcoal for $2.  I love this country. It took some practice, but I got the fire
at the right temp (gotta avoid the smoke).  Stuck on some seasoned chicken and paneer.  Five minutes later I had my own Mulai Chicken and Paneer Tikka.  Yahoo!!!

The Faces of Brian Williams

They can't all be bad.

The Pack and Play

Some really close friends (really more like family) of ours have loan us their Pack and Play for use until we head back to the US in late May.  I never knew how cool it was to set up things for your kids.  As I was putting it together I imagined little Hazel in the middle of it.  It's sad, but I know she'll melt my heart like butter :)
